My Chosen Wall

Set out on my morning walk, camera in hand. After having taken the first 100 photographs I realised a sunny day may on be the best light to be taking photos.
Fantastic shades of green, so vivid almost seems luminous.

Although I walk past this wall often I hadn’t before noticed the difference between the north and south facing sides. Warm browns and copper tones on the south side, cool acid greens of the lichen on the north side.

I have choosen the north facing side, really loved these close-up photos.

I liked the bluey organic tones of these lichen spores, but felt the stones were very random. Think a more uniforn built wall will be better to interpet on to canvas.

Observations of my wall.

I took this first rubbing using black oil pastel, it gave a good indication of the texture of the stone.

This rubbing was taken using a black water soluable pastel, then washed over areas with water and doodled with pen.

Photo-copied and enlarged one of my rubbing, shall keep for future reference.

This rubbing was taken using a green wax candle. I was looking at creating the green of the lichen in the wax. Water colour wash.

Wax rubbing using white candle. Really good resist. Water colour wash that I then worked into further as the wash dried.

My Favorite Rubbing.
Firstly took the rubbing in green oil pastel then using wax candle to give good resist, colour washed in green and grey watercolour.
The textures are strong as the colour wash puddles between the heavy wax resist and is softened by the oil pastel.

Not so good, oil pastel resist.
